The BioBus Project started in 2002 to test the viability of biodiesel fuel in Montreal's cold climate. The original BioBus project involved 155 buses based out of the Frontenac depot. These buses were fueled with a blend of standard diesel and biodiesel made from recycled cooking oils and animal fats. The goal of the project is to see if the fuel would gel or freeze during Montreal's colder winters. As of 2026, the STM is prioritizing the maintenance of its hybrid fleet of its buses. The Biobus Logo is rare to see, and the replacements for this logo is Véhicule Hybride/Éléctrique.
