[SPOILER WARNING FOR TEAM FALCON GAME] Lore [opening cutscene] In days gone by, the Knights of Color defended the lands, keeping the hostile Color States from breaking into all-out war. But as the Knights faded, corrupt leaders rose to power. The States battered each other to pieces in vicious wars. Then the wyvern came. The mighty Greyscale [get it? ‘Cause he has scales?] imposed a reign of terror across the kingdom. Those citizens that survived were forced into hiding. The Age of Greyscale had begun. Lore [revealed as you play] The main character, Huego (pronounced HYOO-go), is the son of the color hero Richard of York, who gave battle in vain against the Greyscale. Huego intends to return color to the land and divide it for good so the colors can never fight again. However, as Huego approaches the end of his journey, he learns that the Knights were not the first guardians of the Color Kingdom. In the final battle (well, he thinks it’s the final battle) against the Greyscale, he finally learns the truth; the Whitescale was the first guardian, forged by the unity of the Color States. It has since been corrupted by the mysterious Black, which is revealed as the true reason the Knights faded. When Huego defeats the Greyscale, the Black leeches out of it, and Huego learns that its true name is Chaos. It thrives off of disunity, prejudice, etc. With the help of the Whitescale, Heugo defeats it and restores unity to the land. Notes Huego should encounter characters from each color that work together (!) to help him reach the final room. These characters should have to overcome their natural distrust. Perhaps one of them fails to do so, and then becomes the Vessel of Chaos in the final final battle. Huego should strongly express his views on separating the Color States early on, perhaps in a conversation with the first boss. This should show some anger and a bit of mistrust towards other colors. The Knights should be raised up as the “ideal” means of keeping evil at bay. However, this belief should be brought into question a bit before the player learns about the Whitescale. Why couldn’t they protect the kingdom from the Black? If there's an older guardian of the kingdom, doesn’t that mean there’s something more powerful than the Knights? etc., etc. Heugo should have an arc where he reconciles with the memory of his father. There should be anger at his father for leaving him to fight, disappointment at having failed him and a quest for redemption, and occasional scenes where his father shows up and talks to him, though it’s obviously just a fantasy/memory on Huego’s part. I’d love if we could have an end credits scene where one of two things happens: 1) Huego sacrifices himself and his dad slowly fades from being a “memory” to being “real” as everything else fades out. 2) Huego’s dad somehow becomes “real” for a few seconds and delivers some meaningful final line. Implementation VERY SIMPLE. Just use a text engine and some kind of system to control the player while cutscenes are going on. We’re not making a cinematic epic here, and we’re on a time crunch.
I know this is a lot, but I really believe in this story. Also uhh if you cant tell you have to scroll down from the spoiler warning lol
