AH DONT LOOK AT THE RLLY RUSHED ANIMATION :( I made the animation in the beginning last minute so it’s kinda choppy but oh well I kinda wish I rendered the key though lol Gosh this was a last minute entry Anyways, onto the actual art! 1. Main piece, ties into the backstory :) 2. Idk I was trying out new brushes and layer techniques so it's not the best 3. (also rushed) Ref for Pigeon! 4. Pigeonnns Backstory (kinda dark btw): Pigeon was a poor and isolated young cat. Living in his small cabin with his older sister, Starlight, he was constantly bullied at school for having an injured left eye. Pigeon knew nothing about whether he was born with the eye or if something happened that he couldn't remember. Starlight, his sister, would raise him, and Pigeon was oblivious and knew nothing about his parents at all. The earliest memory he could remember was sitting at a flower field and spending precious time with his sister. Every time Pigeon asked about his past and what happened to his parents, Starlight always hesitated to answer, changing topics abruptly to something like "oOHhH nOoOooO! tHe ToASter is BURNING!" Of course, even if the toaster WAS burning, Pigeon KNEW Starlight was hiding something from him, some kind of information that she didn't want him to know. Tired of all the secrets, Pigeon crawled down to the basement one night while his sister was away for traveling. Starlight always told him to stay away from the basement, since there's apparently a termite situation going on down there. But when Pigeon opened the door, there was not a single trace of a bug. The basement was, in fact, very clean, like it was inspected every so often. As Pigeon went deeper and deeper through the basement, which was surprisingly large, he saw a door at the end of the hallway. Once he entered the room on the other side, he saw a singular chest. Inside was a bright golden key with a start shaped ruby embedded in the center. And Pigeon had a feeling about where this key was supposed to be used. On the other side of his town was a heavenly gate. According to Starlight, on the other side of the gate was the underworld, where evil demons and creatures of all kinds roamed. The portal behind the gate was the only bridge in between the two worlds, and was locked tightly. Now, as Pigeon inserted the key inside the lock, he hesitated before twisting it open. If the stories were really true, then would he be setting monsters free into his world? No, it can't be. After all, he found the key inside of his own house. Pigeon took a deep breath in and twisted the key as the lock popped open. The golden gate swung open and heavy wind started to rush out of the portal. Just then, a tall, red, evil-looking creature walked out. It did not look friendly. The monster threw Pigeon aside and stomped out. More dark souls bursted out of the portal and the sky turned a deep, bl00dy red. It definitely wasn't friendly. As the tall monster pinned Pigeon to the ground and raised an arm with throne sharp claws, ready to end him, Starlight came outta nowhere and kicked the demon away. "What are you doing here!?" She demanded, as Pigeon laid there, shaking. Now he knew that what his elderly sister said was NOT a lie to stop him from wandering far. As the monster came running back towards them, Starlight attacked, and Pigeon just stood there, helplessly staring. "Maybe if I close up the gate it will suck back the evil demons again!" Pigeon said. Starlight hesitated. She told him the only way to close up the gate again is for someone to close it from the inside. Whoever goes inside will never come back again. Pigeon thought for a moment. He decided he will do it. All of this was his fault anyway, so he HAS to make up for it, even if it k!lls him. Pigeon raced towards the door with the key in his mouth. He plunged into the portal and locked the gate. The dark forces got sucked in, but so did he. After a moment, as Starlight opened her eyes, she saw nothing but Pigeon's scarf on the ground next to the gate. Starlight walked closer to the scarf and picked it up, her eyes watering. She murdered "I'm sorry I couldn't keep your promise, Mom and Dad." OoOOOooOOh LORE THAT YOU'LL HAVE TO FIGURE OUT BY YOURSELF XDXD .. jk I'll explain it lol When Starlight was still a very young kitten, when Pigeon was just born, and when their parents were still around, she stumbled into the same basement and found the same key. She made the same mistake as Pigeon and opened up the gate door despite all the warning her parents gave her. So, the rest of her family heard the noise from outside and rushed over to help. Pigeon not knowing any fighting skills got slashed in the eye by a beast, therefore causing him to have a lifelong scar. Starlight's parents ultimately made the decision to close the door, just like how Pigeon did.
