So, let me start by saying this. I know AI has become something of a problem in the artist/author community especially. I understand why, but it isn't for reasons you might think. I don't think AI is a bad thing in itself, but the way it's made and the way it's used make it "bad". In the artist community, one of the reasons AI is frowned upon is because somewhere, someone has been spreading misinformation. Yes, AI is trained on any art that is online, unless the platform it is on has specifically opted out. But, I can guarantee that when you made that account on that website, you blindly accepted the terms and conditions. In there, you can find a section about AI training, and what your work could be used for. But, when AI is trained, it is given word-picture combinations, and so when you go to that AI and give it a prompt, it first goes through your prompt and finds images that match the words, and then it analyses them pixel by pixel, section by section, and looks at all sorts of other aspects, and then guesses, not randomly, but still, guesses what your prompt should look like. It creates a piece of "art" that has never been seen before, not a blind mash-up of others' work. It is not always correct, because it is guessing, and it often has a specific style to it. Once you know what you're looking for, AI is easy to spot. That's why it can never truly replace artists. Another reason the creative communities are against AI is because what an artist could take weeks to draw, an AI could draw in minutes. And these pieces of AI "art" could sell for as much as a man-made piece. This is a problem. But it can be resolved. Again, AI is easy to spot once you know what you're looking for. So people need to be educated. While you're here, you may as well educate yourself on the signs of AI in "art" here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EyrlM5Qa5pw The author community is also against AI for a similar reason. But when AI generates something, whether it be image or text, it is just guessing. It refers to its training, and then guesses what you want. And because of this, it can never create a proper story, or a proper image. AI can never replace the creative communities. The only problem with AI in itself is the vast amount of energy and water the data centres consume. But as AI gets more efficient, this will decrease. In conclusion, AI is not bad because of its nature, but because of its application.
I do not fully support the use of AI, but I don't think its as bad as the creative communities make it out to be.
