Beowulf ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- And through the night came Grendel, And tore open the door, For nothing could stop him, Not a drove of wild boar. Inside the room he saw, Beowulf and his companions, Lying on the floor. He picked up one of the thanes, And tore him limb from limb, Then staggered over, To a wall on which rested canes. But the torches died, And Beowulf rose in the dark, To claim his pride. He saw Grendel's glowing eyes, And ran at him and wrestled, But Grendel fought back, For he was hungry tonight. But Beowulf stood, And all his thanes, Attacked Grendel too. But their swords, Could not pierce his hide, As his skin was coarse. Then Beowulf got a grip, And tore Grendel's arm off, With an almighty rip!
