So ive rewritten this lesson like 5 times now cuz i keep accidentally closing the tab without saving :sigh: One more time ig :D This is my guide to mental shifts, coming from a therian who saw all of the glamorized videos (led to lots of confusion and imposter syndrome) 1 What is a mental shift? Mental shifts can be a bit hard to describe, as they’re different for everyone. A good analogy example thingy ive found, is imagine you have two different parts of yourself coexisting, human and animal. A mental shift is when the animal side of you takes a more dominant role in your thoughts. The severity of this depends, but its just a stronger nudge of instinct than alterhumans normally feel :3 2 Misconceptions Lots of videos and posts will talk about ‘giving into a shift’ or ‘letting one happen’. This isn’t false, but can be misinterpreted. When experiencing a mental shift, you aren’t taken over. You are still yourself, you are still in control. If you aren’t, that may be a feral shift (please seek help if you get feral shifts, take care of yourself!! <3) 3 What do they feel like? For me, mental shifts have always felt as if I am my theriotype, just in an oddly shaped body. It’s the thoughts and instincts of your theriotype but heightened. I am always aware of myself and my actions, and am actively choosing to behave animalistically (this is ‘letting the shift happen’). If I need to do something or talk to someone, i can still do so. Depending on how strong the shift is it may take some effort to avoid say making small vocals, or walking strangely, but i can do so. :3 4 How do i know if ive shifted? Again, my experience, some people feel differently. A telltale sign that im having a mental shift, is that if I do quads, it feels correct. Quadrobics have always felt clumsy and strange on my hands, but in a shift it feels natural. A strong mental shift I myself am able to tell with certainty is in fact a shift, although mini ones i dont always recognize. Another analogy for a shift: If someone sneaks up behind you and jumpscares you, you might scream. You dont scream normally though (you can, but dont feel compelled to as much). If you put in effort to avoid screaming, you can avoid it when being surprised. Thats how mental shifts feel (for me). You’re compelled to behave animalistically, but can push it away if you try :3
homework for alterhuman school students: if you’ve ever had a mental shift, describe it! Use as much detail as possible :3 If you haven’t, describe a different shift or alterhuman experience you’ve had :D
