1996 - 2000 - The MKI April was a turning point in Hirotas history, being the first car to be sold outside of Japan. Its cheap price and vast trim lineup made it a best seller among many small hatchbacks in the late 1990's. Its fuel efficient 1.0L Petrol engine was good on gas, but also powerful enough to get the car moving. Severe rust issues destroyed many of the early models (96-98), which led to rust-proofing on later models. overall, it was a cheap nothing car for the most part, however it did compete in 1000CC Rally events (And it was quite good at it too!) Most have reached the end of their lives at this point, but you can still find them occasionally.
