~ 5 minute read · · ──── ·꩜· ──── · · when i was a kid, i was very sure about one thing: i was going to be an artist. this was not a quiet or graceful phase. i painted everything. paper, walls, notebooks, probably the air. my paintings looked like an extinct mammoth had picked up a brush, panicked, and called it abstract art. but i loved it. i loved the colours, the mess, the feeling that i was making something out of nothing. at that age, passion does not care if you are good. it just wants you to enjoy it. then, slowly, that passion shifted. i discovered music, and suddenly i wanted to be a singer. this phase was dramatic. i sang everywhere. rooms became stages, pillows became audiences, and every song felt like my big break. i was not thinking about technique or careers or reality. i just knew that singing made me feel alive. and that is something people do not tell you enough. passions often start as feelings, not plans. after that came the phase we do not talk about too loudly. engineering. yes. that happened. for the love of everything, do not remind me. numbers, formulas, logic, and me trying very hard to convince myself that this was my destiny. it was horrifying. but here is the important part. even that phase mattered. it taught me that sometimes you think you want something because it sounds impressive or sensible or safe. and then you realise it is not you. and that realisation is not failure. it is information. now, i want to be a writer. this did not appear out of nowhere. it is a mix of everything that came before. the creativity from art. the emotion from music. even the discipline i learned while pretending to enjoy engineering. writing feels like home because it holds all the versions of me that came before. it lets me think, feel, imagine, and speak all at once. and this is where you come in. if your passions keep changing, if you feel lost because you do not have one fixed dream, that is completely normal. you are not confused. you are evolving. passions are not meant to be cages. they are meant to be paths. you walk one for a while, learn something, and then move on when it no longer fits. so let yourself change your mind. let yourself try things badly. let yourself cringe at old phases and still be grateful for them. your passion is not disappearing. it is growing up with you. and one day, just like me, you might look back and realise that every strange phase was leading you exactly where you needed to be. - the bookmark • ───── ✾ ───── • #the_bookmark #blog • ───── ✾ ───── •
