I LOVE HEART TOO MUCH ASLDNFM<BDASFJM WAHHHHH The Soul crouched over Darrell’s feeding bowl, the chicken clucking for more, even though it was mostly filled. “Go on, you ungrateful chick, I will tear you apart if—” “Soul.” The Heart snapped, gripping the entity’s wrist. “It’s a chicken.” The angel wrapped a wing around the eldest brother. “Darrell doesn’t understand.” The chicken climbed into The Hearts arms, trilling in content. “Plus, they’re a baby! You can’t hurt them!” “I guess you’re right.” The Soul grumbled, watching the angel sit crisscross with the pet in his lap. The entity’s hand stroked Darrell’s feathers. “It’s soft.” “I know.” A whisper in the eclectic living space, discarded shirts on the floor and a random set of headphones under the bed. There was a chirp in the room, unknown if it was The Heart or Darrell. “You need to manage your anger better. It’s getting worse.” There was a nod from the entity. “Is there something you need to talk about?” “No. I’m fine.” The Soul scoffed, scratching the back of the chicken’s head, who cooed and pleaded for more. The silence fell, but instead of the usual calm, it was a still tension, the kind that wooden ninja star crafts would have. The Soul chuckled at the memory. Darrell peeped, the arguably sassy chicken now roosting on one of The Heart’s thighs. Darrell spread his wings out, almost in a show of dominance, even though the chicken was about a 6th of The Heart’s size. “Stupid chicken.” “He’s not stupid! He’s VERY smart!” The Heart, the empathetic creature he was, also let his wings spread a bit, the feathers on his neck ruffling up a bit. “For a chicken, maybe.” The Soul laughed, taking a lighter and old receipt out from his pocket. “But he’s just a baby chicken.” He teased the receipt over the flame, watching the chemicals on the paper react to the heat and turn black. “He’s just a stupid chicken.” “Well, yeah, but he still has feelings. I bet you would be a little bit offended if someone called you stupid in a different language.” The Heart soothed Darrell in his lap, making sure the pet was comfortable. “Oh yeah?” “Yeah, バカ.” The Heart hissed, pulling Darrell away from the entity. “愚かな馬鹿者.” “Hey, hey, mate, you got something to say, say it in English!” The Soul shoved the angel’s shoulder, the two watched the chicken scramble away from the minuscule argument. It was hardly even an argument, just a jest or tease. “Ah, you likely know what I said.” The Heart leaned his head on the entity’s shoulder, grinning slyly. “大好きだよ!~” The Heart jested, the excess fabric of the blindfold draping across Soul’s back. “Okay.” The Soul fidgeted with the lighter, lighting and extinguishing the fire repeatedly. “What do you mean by that?” The entity continued to mess with the lighter and receipt, watching the reaction occur with a glint in his eye. It was hard to tell if the highlight was from the literal fire or from genuine pyromania. “Soul, brother, it means I love you.” The Heart puffed his cheeks, feeling the heat from the lighter. “What are you doing with that, by the way?” “Receipt.” The Soul continued to play with the receipt and flame, watching all the reactions occur to the point of total darkness in the ink. “Oh.” The Heart adjusted the small chicken in his lap, both avians warbling in content. “Remember when we got Darrell?” The angel tilted his head, a whisper in his voice. Of course, The Heart remembered something like that, The Soul thought. “I do.” The Soul responded blandly, just like how The Mind would wave off anything The Heart wanted to share. It was rude and emotionally absent. The lighter was being flicked on and off repeatedly again. “You were whining on about how sad the chicken looked. It was eatin’ fine.” “He clearly wasn’t!” The Heart’s wings fluttered a bit. The feathers started erupting across his forearms and neck at the pure outrage. “He was WAY too small!”
“It’s called being a runt, Heart.” The Soul rolled his eyes, continuing to mess with the flame of his lighter. He pinched the flame, pulling back when it burned him occasionally. The smell of smoke filled the room, as if it didn’t smell like smoke enough. “Runts are just smaller.” The Heart looked at the runt of a chicken in his lap, watching the small bird coo and chirp as he settled into the angel’s arms. “I know.” The Soul huffed softly, wincing as he burned himself a bit harsher than usual. The Heart felt this, he felt the pain from the fire in his hands, oddly enough. “You were a runt.” The Soul said, almost absentmindedly as he ran his hands through the chicken’s feathers. “You were always a little too small.” “I-I don’t feel too small now.” The Heart wrapped his wings around himself, hiding his form in the pelt. “You were supposed to be larger than me.” The Soul said blandly, now laying backward on the floor. “Chonny was supposed to have a big heart.” The entity chuckled a bit as the chicken now settled on his chest, much to the disappointment of The Heart. The Soul set the lighter aside, now bringing his attention to the small bird that plopped itself down right on top of him. “Oh.” The Heart relaxed his wings a bit, ‘peering’ from over the appendages, or his way of peering. “I didn’t know that.” “I didn’t tell you.” The Soul’s anger had seemed to subside, almost a paternal instinct kicking in when the chicken nuzzled up to him. “It seemed like you didn’t need to know.” He gave a whisper of a laugh. “I thought it was fate when you warmed up to Darrell so fast.” The Heart gave a small trill, akin to a dove, especially how his snow-white wings flustered behind him. “I would have liked to know that.” “Well, yeah. But I thought you were on track until you just kinda… stopped.” The Soul fidgeted with the feathers on the pet’s body, hearing the quiet cluck in protest. He put his hands to his side. “You stopped growing with us. I thought it was just a sorta thing before a growth spurt, but it never happened. You got sick more often, you were constantly on edge, you lost your appetite. I thought something was wrong.” “T-that’s when we started showing signs of—” “Depression, yes.” The Soul sighed a bit. “I didn’t want you to think something was wrong with you… You’re a great angel and brother, Heart.” “It’s okay.” The angel lay next to the entity now. It was a comfortable silence for a few moments, both brothers stared at the ceiling wordlessly. “Even if I’m broken.” “You’re not broken. You’re just a bit different.” The Soul gently took The Heart’s hand in his, squeezing it with care. “You’re the… the heart! A lack of serotonin doesn’t make you, hell, even us broken.” His gaze remained fixated on the ceiling. “It just makes us Chonny...? I guess? I’m not good at this kinda stuff.” The Heart giggled, much to the amusement of The Soul, who quickly joined in.
