Dagger and Nutty arrived in Central City at 9:00 in the morning. The streets were crowded with cars as thousands of residents went to work and to drop off their kids at school. Horns honked at every intersection, and people were walking double speed. Dagger and Nutty were shoved around constantly. "Hey, watch it!" Nutty yelled as he rammed into a passerby. "I'm trying to walk here!" The woman looked down at him, then kicked him in the shin before walking off. Dagger pulled Nutty by his arm. "Just try to stay close, and don't ram into people! This isn't a football game, y'know." . . . Later, Dagger and Nutty were eating at a popular fast-food restaurant. Nutty had a cheeseburger kids meal, and Dagger had a sub. Nutty had his face right up in his food, and was devouring it like a tornado. Dagger watched in awe as Nutty finished his food within 2 minutes. "I guess you were hungrier than I let on," he commented. Nutty looked up. "What?" he blurted as the straw from his drink rattled in his mouth. Dagger sighed, hiding a smile. "Just finish up," he said. "We've got to—" An ear-splitting cry came from the west of the building. Dagger leapt out of his chair and onto the roof. He gazed over the horizon to see a high school. All seemed normal, except, of course, for the yelling. Then, from behind the building emerged the Egg Dragoon, equipped with drills and chainsaws from head to tail. It shot ice missiles out of its feet as it lurched closer. By now, Nutty had joined Dagger on the roof. "Come on!" he yelled. "That thing is going to hurt those crazy people! We've got to do something!" "Your heart is in the right place, but how do we—" Dagger didn't get to finish the thought before Nutty jumped off the building and began gliding towards the scene. He, regretfully, followed his companion to stop him from getting killed. Dagger caught up and tackled Nutty. "What do you think you're doing?!" he yelled. "You can't go there! That thing will end you!" Nutty gave him a stern look. "Says the hedgehog who ran into a burning house, of all things! This is no different! People are in danger, but you're too busy thinking about yourself! We can't just let them be killed!" Dagger looked on. "I wasn't planning on doing nothing," he explained, his calm already returned. "I just need to figure out how to fight that thing." Nutty smiled. "I'll go in and distract it to buy you time. You figure out its weak point while protecting those wacky teens. Once you know what to do, you can power down that bucket of bolts!" Dagger looked at his companion with newfound respect. "Alright, let's run it!" . . . Dr. Eggman, human genius with 300 IQ, was piloting an upgraded version of the Egg Dragoon. He expertly used the complicated controls to force the chainsaws into position. This high school was the best in the country, and once Sonic caught on, he could test his new weapon. Suddenly, a small, yellow-green flying squirrel gripped the cockpit of the mech. "Hey!" the mad doctor yelled. "This is an expensive machine! Get off! Shoo!" The child tightened his grip. "This is a delicate school!" he shot back. "And I'm not going to let some pharmacist be the cause of its destruction!" Enraged, Eggman guided one of the drills into his back. "I'm not a pharmacist, you naughty rodent! I'm Dr. Robotnic, the greatest scientific—" The small squirrel, completely ignoring the drill in his back, grabbed onto a blue cylinder near the cockpit and tore it out. Then he dove over to the next one, dislodging the drill, and tore it out as well. "Hey!" Eggman steamed. "That's a delicate machine! Get away from there!" Suddenly, the shield around the cockpit dropped. The blue cylinders had been powering it, and now the only thing between Eggman and this deranged animal was a dome of bullet-proof glass. "Why you—" . . . Dagger raced onto the property just as school let up. Nutty had leapt onto the mech and was disarming these weird blue things coming out right beneath the cockpit. Dagger looked and saw teachers shooing a large group of students out the door. As much as getting them out of the building was smart, now they were vulnerable to attack. Not hesitating, Dagger darted towards the sidewalk they were walking on. Then, a giant ice blast caught his eye. The psycho was trying to shoot Nutty, but had missed, and now the shot was heading into the path of the large group of teens. "Stop!" Dagger yelled. "That ice blast could freeze you to death!" (continue to the notes and credits)
Most of the kids stopped, but a turquoise hedgehog with pink tips had headphones in her ears, and couldn't hear the warning. The other girls at the front reached for her, but she was walking too fast. Dagger sprinted forwards. The ice blast was only a few dozen feet away. The song the girl was listening to ended, and she picked up yelling. She took off her headphones and turned to see the ice missile coming towards her. She opened her mouth to scream, but before a sound could come out, she was tackled by Dagger. The ice beam hit with a resounding crash. The entire sidewalk was enveloped by an ice wall, and multiple students screamed. Then, on the other side of the wall, there was movement. The girl used her hand to brush her bangs out of her eyes. "Hey! Get off of me!" she yelled as she shoved Dagger. Dagger stumbled back into the ice wall. His face was red with exhaustion. "You're welcome." He snarled. The hedgehog began to walk away towards the woods. “Mind taking your classmates with you? It’s not safe here.” She smiled. "Of course," she said as sheturned around. "Come on, guys!” she yelled, cupping her hands around her mouth. “Let’s get out of here with our lives!" The other teens flowed into the woods as Dagger headed towards the towering mech. The pilot looked down and laughed. "Well, if it isn't Sonic?" Dagger took a turn at laughing. "It isn’t! I'm pretty sure I'm a clone of him or something. You can call me Dagger." The doctor's face turned bright red. "All this trouble, and all I get is an imposter?!" he screamed as he shot a drill off of the mech's arm. Dagger dodged it and jumped at a lime green orb near the legs. Pulling out a knife, he sliced the thing, causing the mech to power down. The doctor yelled as his mech collapsed, falling on the field used for phys ed classes. Nutty dashed over, still full of energy. "Did I do good?" To be continued...
