I was young then, but I'm not going to be ashamed of it. I'm not going to change your name. I'm going to be proud of it. I remember, vaguely, the day I met you. You were perfect. It was love at first sight. You were tiny, barely four weeks old. You could fit in the palms of my hands. You were skittish at first, but lovely. I loved you with all my heart, even if I hardly knew what that even meant. I look back on all of my memories with you fondly. The way you thought we couldn't see you when you just hid your head. The way you and your sister would sit on each other, to the disgruntlement of the other. Even the time you bit me once. I remember the way you would squeak and squeal your little head off when it was time for breakfast or you heard a bag crinkle. I remember how you would steal food from your sister, even though there was plenty. I remember the speed you would eat your favourite foods and how you would refuse to eat anything non-organic. You were a spoiled piggie, but you were my spoiled piggie. You were my funny, sassy, unique girl. It hurt so much when I got to the vet and they gave us the news. It hit like a truck. I had been clinging on to the hope that you'd pull through. I know you passed peacefully, in the arms of the vet. I just wish I could've been there. To hold you. To comfort you. To hug you one last time. But... perhaps you wouldn't want that. Maybe you would've felt the need to act strong for me. Your quality of life was important, so if things were wrong, I may have had to make the choice to put you down. That would've been a horrible decision to have to make, so you made that choice for me. I gave you your favourite toy and your favourite pouch before we left you in the hands of the vets the night before. I hope that gave you comfort. I really hope you didn't think we were leaving you. You're with your sister now, in a sunny field with endless food. I'm sure you've met my family's previous piggies, as well as my friends' too. You're probably telling stories, like how you got to sit in the front seat of the car and the time you ran behind the TV. I see you bragging to your sister about the time we spent together and how you got to try kiwi fruit. I know there's nothing I can do, but I still hurt. My heart and hands still ache for you. Still wish you were here. I know you're in a better place, but it hurts. I still look over to your cage, expecting to see you there. But you're not. I heard a quote, 'Grief is the price we pay for love.' and it's so very true. I loved you so much, so now that you're gone, I hurt so very much. You'd been with me most of my life. You helped me through countless bad days and hard times, especially recently. You were one of the best things that happened to me. I just hope I was the best for you. ──────────────── FUN FACTS ABOUT ANGEL ➤ Her favourite foods were basil, golden kiwi fruit, and red capsicum. ➤ She hated getting her nails cut. ➤ She would climb up to my shoulder when I took her out, even when she was old. ➤ Her mum was from a rescue. ➤ We got her at ~190g and at her peak she was ~930g (I think). ➤ She would hear when I got up and would start wheeking for food.
