IT'S SO COOL!!! AURJRKRSHKAR URK!!! The morning sun beamed through the window, casting a warm glow upon The Mind and The Soul. The two were already up, as per usual, with a daily ‘routine’, be that The Soul just gets his Monster Energy, and they stay the hell away from each other. Which always worked, oddly enough, The Mind would get the stuff he needs to be done in the mornings and The Soul can mentally deal with The Heart before he wakes up, knowing that he usually sleeps in. “Mornin’ blue.” The Soul yawned, cracking open a can of the energy drink. “Mechanical hands.” He chuckled under his breath. “Eggman invention.” “Are your energy levels managed, Soul?” The Mind looked up from his laptop, a dull expression behind the leaden eyes. “Are you under any sort of influence?” The Soul laughed lazily, looking in the can for a moment to see the carbonation flow into bubbles popping at the top. “Eh, nah, I just wanted to call you something stupid.” The entity floated behind The Mind, looking over his shoulder. “This is important business?” The Soul laughed to himself, watching The Mind type essays on his computer. “Chonny will undoubtedly fail this semester in college if I do not finish this.” The Mind rubbed his temples, his fans rotating rapidly. “How many words?” “2,500-word essay on how sound engineering and musicality can help one achieve happiness or sadness, depending on the mood and tone, along with how one can achieve it.” The Mind deadpanned, shutting his laptop for a moment. The Soul paused for a moment. There was a tilt in his head and his expression morphed into something perplexed. It wasn’t clicking in his head that The Mind, of all parts of Chonny, would be writing about emotion. “But you’re a robot.” “Exactly.” The Mind stated, “Heart’s able to produce the general idea and consensus while I make revisions as I seem grammatically fit.” He laughed a bit, at least in his eyes, to everyone else it was like a glitch behind the voice box. “We both know about Heart’s disability.” “So, we either drop out or we have a chance at an argument between you and Heart?” “I would not say a chance, that would be a lie.” The Mind opened the laptop again, typing away. The malfunction in his hands were undoubtedly making things difficult. The Soul even felt the automaton’s shoulders tense under the thought of it all. The Soul took an awkward drink of his Monster. “I heard you two last night.” The Soul whispered, taking a seat next to The Mind and taking a sip once more from his Monster. “Do you really not think we could be Whole again?” “Like I previously mentioned, Soul, I do not see it to be logical when we cannot act in unison.” The Mind didn’t look up from his laptop. There was an utter silence when The Mind finished speaking. The tapping of the mechanical keyboard was almost deafening in the room, the coffee brewing in the pot went into quiet. “You’re so pessimistic.” The entity rested his head against the table with a groan. “You don’t know ‘I can’ if it smacked you in the face and called you gay.” “By technicality, it would be false.” The Mind continued typing, like he was running two separate tabs in his head, one of the third of a man in front of him and the other of the essay that was only half-finished. “I am told I am ‘aromantic asexual’, meaning I cannot be homosexual.” “Not what I meant.” Soul scoffed, taking another sip from his Monster. “What did you mean?” The Mind still didn’t pry his attention from the essay, probably writing 100 words per minute, good for him. “You’re such a Debby-downer that the phrase ‘I can’ slips your system.” The Soul jabbed, running a hand through his cinnamon brown curls. “That is also negatory. I can write this essay.” The Mind shut The Soul’s arguably horrible criticism immediately. “Not in true nature.” The Soul leaned in a little bit, looking at the screen. The words blurred under his vision. “You have ethos and logos, where’s your pathos?” “Soul, this is an informational essay, there is no need for pathos.” The Mind’s voice box hummed softly, unamused by The Soul’s constant pressuring. “You’re boring.” The Soul sighed slumping against the table. “Good morning.” The Heart trilled, leaning against the table next to The Soul, who was already fiddling with the feathers on the angel’s forearms. “Hi, Soul, hi Mind.” The Heart beamed. “Hiya, Hearty!!” The Soul giggled a bit, suddenly finding a new thing to bother and tease. “Mind’s a little grumpy today.” “Good morning, resident Heart.” The Mind grumbled barely over a whisper. “And no, I do not experience ‘grumpiness’.”
“Let me eat first.” The Heart giggled inaudibly; the quietest parts turned into a light warble. The fridge opened, a mechanical hum replicating The Mind’s voice modulator. He tossed an apple at The Soul, never to him, he always missed. He also took one for himself. “Can’t live on Monster.” “Oh, shut up.” The Soul took a bite from the apple, however, touched that The Heart had thought about him. Even if the emotional one really did care for him often with small gestures, it was still nice to be thought about when The Mind only thought about logic and autonomy. “The Mind needs your help, by the way.” The Mind scoffed. “Do not. I already had—" “Yes, you do!~” the entity teased, flipping himself upside-down. “You need a lotta help, don’t you, Mindy?” The Soul lifted The Mind’s chin, making eye contact with the machine. “You can’t feel a thing…” The air stiffened a bit, The Mind glitched for a moment. The Mind folded, swallowing the lump in his throat. “YES! YES! OKAY! OKAY!” The Soul could tell the logistics never liked his systems to be messed with. He found that out when he accidentally stopped an argument by shutting The Mind down when he meant to scare them a bit. The coercion has worked since. “With what?” The Heart perked up a bit. “Little Mr. Mind here’s gotta write an essay on how music can make people feel.” The Soul teased, picking up The Mind’s hand like one would a puppet string. “And, as you can sense from the lack of a heartbeat… Mind can’t feel.” “I know.” The Heart chirped contently. “I already helped a lot.” “He gave me a series of voice memos and files to follow.” The Mind stated blandly. “I currently have many of the conversations playing on in the background of my consciousness.” The Soul froze. The Heart’s voice started playing from Mind’s voice modulator, almost whispering to The Mind. The sound of steam billowed in the background of the recording, possibly The Mind’s frustration. “Music is pretty neat. It’s up to interpretation on how someone views something. Yeah, it’s in the chords, Apollo, but it’s also in the listener’s experience.” The recording cut off there. “I uh—” “Very useful.” The Mind smirked, knowing The Soul was finally beat. “I felt his gears whirring from my room. I had to help.” The Heart chirped. The Soul swallowed a lump in his throat, confusion written all over his face. It hadn’t seemed like The Mind and Heart got along at all, let alone enough to help each other willingly. His head was spinning, thoughts reeling. He thought he had to use force, why doesn’t he need to use force anymore? “You are… helping each other?” The two nodded in unison, like it was a normal thing to be helping the part of you that’s supposed to be your mortal enemy. “L-Like REALLY?” The Soul emphasized. “Not just ‘I was threatened’?” Another nod from the two. Agreement that they were in fact helping each other out and looking out for one another. No way. The Soul slammed his palms on the table, his expression beaming with joy and utter astonishment. “OH MY GOD!! YOU’RE ACTUALLY GETTING ALONG!” The Soul laughed maniacally. His face leaked the light hidden inside the entity, glowing in pure excitement, all to the point of the darker side of his mask completely falling off. “Oh—” “Language.” The Mind interrupted before The Soul could even finish his sentence. “Sorry! Sorry!” The Soul winced, picking up the fallen half of his mask and putting it securely back on. “OH MY GOD!!!!!!” He bounced, smiling brightly. “YOU’RE GETTING ALONG!”
