Rather, it is his words that hurt like a saber. Strangely and instinctually, he seems to act and say things that are reminiscent of Sweetpaw. He has the same, closed-off, and faraway kind of look, as if he's contemplating his every move- is it worth it? Must he harm and hurt and plunder for the sake of his father? But his father needs him, and so he cries alone; when his tears are dried, he is a hardened soldier once more, hurt brushed aside. His life is full of contemplation of harm or help. Seeing an injured blackbird, he doesn't quite know how to react. He could nurse it back to health, but shouldn't he end its suffering? There is so much power in his claws, and as much as he pities the weak, he has his own honor to prove. Given his father wanted him to cause harm, promising him some semblance of external validation, he would absolutely take it- no matter the task and no matter how much he cries alone afterwards. Much of his anger becomes misdirected. He fights back because he doesn't know what civility is. He hurts those who care, but he truly does not mean to lash out. Truly. His heart is built out of anger, yet there is nowhere it can't go. If Saber ever defied his father and were taken apart cell by cell, bone by bone, he would truly be worth nothing. A laughingstock for his siblings to jeer at. A failed example. A stepping stool. A target for violence. Or worse, nothing at all. He has a deep-seated inferiority complex and is desperate for his father's validation. Saber, deep in his heart, is deeply sensitive and longing. But his face has hardened. He has a permanent, cruel smile to appease his father, so much so that he forgot how to smile genuinely. Even when he cries, he smiles in this vicious, impassive way. You cannot tell what he is feeling.
