Was messing around with setting and editing object lists for displaying independant objects without using clones. This project is the very quick result of those experiments; each frame all of the objects are redrawn with their new, slightly changed effects (ghost, whirl, etc.). This metheod does not depend on clones (can go above clone limit), allowing you to make interesting trail effects or other effects without inhibiting your ability to use clones for other purposes. Unfortunately, the pen renders only on the very back layer (the backdrop), meaning that any sprites or clones will sit on top of the effects. In one of my other projects (https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1048785091/), I used a similar system but this time WITH clones. I used a clone pool and a kind of ECS to dynamically assign clones to different objects and have them behave polymorphically based on their type or ID. You could try that to :)
(Looks nicer in Turpowarp with 60fps enabled)
