what is a question for? - the sun hangs in the sky. it rises and falls in methodical cycles that the librarian has viewed over and over again. 1156 days since she opened her eyes to view the world. 1065 days since she was brought to her home. every single day since then, it has looked up to the sky to gaze at familiar, repetitive, mocking clouds, and it remembers all of them. hours and minutes blend into each other, cats come and go as they do, and foxglovefrond remains to witness it all. his head throbs from the endless memories, all of them nearly identical to one another. through this repetition comes boredom. and from boredom comes questions. why is clan life such a bore? when did the clans even begin these traditions? why do they have traditions? why do we even need clans anyway? of course, these are silly questions. foxglovefrond knew this, obviously, but good questions take time to think about. and so she thought, and she thought for many moons. .. the new moon was clouded, and the librarian sat in the tall grasses of windclan territory. the cool breeze in the night blew through the moors, foxglovefrond's smoky grey fur waving softly in it. heather flowers gently tickled its paws and the starlit sky hung above it, nearly coaxing it to fall asleep. unfortunately, she couldn't have peace even in such a picturesque scene, and her thoughts were racing at a million miles a second, despite her stoic facade. a question was burning deep in her mind, and it was burning for moons. what was the truth, really? it seemed very simple, but it wasn't simple at all to answer. no one could really know everything. you could get one cat to travel the world, and they wouldn't be able to tell you the truth about everything. if you got another one, they'd say something different to the first one. the truth is not really a 'definite' thing. but, foxglovefrond surmised, the ultimate truth did exist. infinite, of course, but it was something definite. every perspective of everything there is and will be known. past, present and future. true enlightenment, found in an answer that gave this truth. with such a truth, one could bring greatness to the clans. the clans would all prosper. sickness, conflict and death would never need to be feared as they could be solved with the snap of a finger. foxglovefrond needed to find this answer. it had to. an infinite memory could store infinite knowledge. however, it was unwise to just take the ultimate truth with his own biased perception. thus, she made a decision. journey to the other clans. learn as many other views of truth as they can. once it is ready, it'll have the ultimate truth in its paws. the answer to every question, the knowledge that will destroy ignorance once and for all. ... 2520 minutes since this choice. foxglovefrond stands at the border of skyclan and windclan, another figure on the other side of it. a meeting, a truce, an agreement. a small cloud of fog rises to the skies from the billowing wind. - a question exists to be answered. but answers only bring about more questions, don't they? there is a paradox that needs to be resolved. the librarian of babel stands in the endless halls, prepared to solve an unsolvable problem.
