Argen gazed all around into the endless night, dazzled by the thousands of blazing stars. They made her sleek fur glitter, so she looked like an ocean when the moon reflects off it. “Young one. Do you hear them?” came a voice from a dark patch. “I hear the stars” Argen could indeed hear sighing. “Do you yearn for a world?” “I yearn for you to put me down, your telekinesis is making me queasy” Argen wriggled her tail. “Oh, I see. Apologies.” Argen was lowered, but still floating, now spinning slowly. “Do you know the story of the Curse?” the voice continued. “No. Will you tell me?” “Certainly…” Long ago, all ferrets lived side by side. Until one fateful day, 10 satellites appeared in the sky, and each one brought strange, bright colour and light to the land, and some ferrets awakened powerful magic. Dangerous magic, of fire and oceans and ice. Some ferrets had no magic, and they saw the truth, how the colours manipulated and corrupted other ferrets. A war started between an army of noble rebels and the Coloured ferrets, but the former didn’t stand a chance. The Colours’ strongest warrior, the first White-Iris, cast a magic barrier between the rebels and the magical ones, and those blighted by the Curse have waited here, in the stars, for centuries. But, a whisker of hood remained, for before the Ferret of all colours had sealed this realm, I managed to steal two rays of white light. With the first, after 150 years, I created Aurum. He was a marvel, a Gold-Iris with much of the White One’s power, possibly more! I gave him the perfectly reasonable request to find and destroy the 10 Prisms that allowed the Satellites to function, and sent him on his way. “Only, what does Aurum go and do after 20 years of living among the Colour ferrets? He only goes and joins forces with them! The BETRAYAL!” The shadow paused a moment and visibly slumped. “With my own Black power, and the powers of Gold and White combined, Aurum is close to immortal. And with him reinforcing the barrier between our prison and the world of ferrets, there is almost no solution…” “But you still had the second white ray,” Argen murmured, “and you used it to create…” “You, Argen. You’re very smart.” Argen was taking this all in. -It is not creepy at all and perfectly normal that I was made by a near-invisible deity out of a ray.- She took a closer look at the shape. It had a crescent head with two piercing, glowing white eyes, and it’s body was thin, seemingly from hunger, while it’s legs ended in a point and its tail in a wisp-like black flame. Argen couldn’t tell if it was even a ferret. Then there was herself. Argen could barely look down at her bushy tail because it was so shiny. Her entire coat was so silver it had a blue glow to it, except one large, white triangle on her chest. On her tail she also noticed a weight, and shielding her eyes, she saw a silver ring with a grey diamond in the shape of a four-pointed star. “You like yourself? Rather conspicuous, I know.” the shadow admitted. “But anyway! Can you guess what your mission is?” “Well… destroy the 10 Prisms… and… fight Aurum?” “Spot on. Now, I have just enough magic left to get you through the barrier…” “Hang on, question. Why do you need ME to go fight Aurum and everything? Couldn’t you go yourself?” “That’s a good question. And there are two good answers. One, my efforts against such a powerful ferret as Aurum would be ineffective, due to his many magic resistances and my poor condition. Only the power of a Silver-Iris like you can equal him. Even then, you need the power of the Ray to equal him in strength. “Two, since you will appear to the ferrets as a poor, lost adventurer, rather than a majestic, divine beast whom they banished 500 years ago, you can mingle with them, gain their trust. “But…” The shade got closer, and Argen could see how truly huge it was, about three times as tall as her. “You must NOT trust THEM. You must not forget your purpose, as Aurum did, to destroy the Prisms…” “…Fight Aurum and weaken the magic so that the Curse of the Rebels will be broken, got it. Also, do you know why the Rebels don’t have powers?” The shadow flinched, but recovered quickly. “No… It is unjust, but not much can change that. Now, you are ready, Argen. Good luck. And don’t let me down.” Argen called through the encroaching brightness in her vision. “I won’t!” ~*~
