"This looks amazing." Sidon said as he set his lunch tray on the table next to Yona. Link held in a smile. Normally Sidon would sit next to him, but today the seat next to the pretty zora was occupied. "It tastes amazing too." Impa added, taking a large bite out of her dish. Link had to agree, the tender meat was seasoned with rare spices and sauces from the gorons and gerudo. It had to be the best thing he had ever put in his mouth. "I'm glad you like it." A voice said from behind them. Link turned to see a middle-aged woman smiling kindly. "Professor Mineru!" Zelda exclaimed, giving her a hug. The professor laughed and hugged her back. "I see you've taken quite well to your life here at Hylia Academy." She said. Zelda pulled back and nodded. "Yes, I definitely have." She turned back to the rest of them. "Everybody, this is Professor Mineru, she's the associate dean at the academy." Professor Mineru waved at the group. "Nice to meet you all." She said. "How are you enjoying Hylia Academy?" "Well, we've only had one class, but so far it's only been incredible." Yona answered. Mineru smiled. "I'm glad to hear that, the Dean will be pleased." "Or he'll throw a tantrum." Sidon muttered a little too loudly. Link kicked him under the table, but Professor Mineru just smiled. "What's your name?" She asked. Sidon blushed. "Sidon." He said. Professor Mineru nodded. "Well Sidon," She began, "I know the Dean can be difficult at times, and even downright dreadful at others, but nonetheless, he is still the Dean, and I will not have you talking that way about him." Sidon nodded. "Sorry." "That's alright. I understand your frustration." Mineru said. "I trust you found your first class enjoyable?" She asked the group at large. "It was incredible!" Zelda gushed, "Professor Robbie showed us a real ancient core, he even let us handle it!" "Ah yes, he is quite fond of that little gadget." Professor Mineru chuckled, "It cost him a fortune to putchase it, so I'm surprised he let freshmen handle it." Link caught Tulin's eye and smirked. So the little professor had bought the core, not stolen it on an excursion to the Gerudo Desert. 'I knew it,' Tulin mouthed at him. "I assume you're in the courtyard next?" Professor Mineru asked. Link nodded. "Yeah where we'll choose our electives." He said. She nodded. "Well you may want to start heading over then; the period starts in five minutes." She told him. Link glanced at the clock mounted on the far wall of the cafeteria. "She's right, guys, we should probably go." "Thanks professor," Zelda said, gathering her trash. "Ok, students, please gather around!" A portly, balding man shouted from the center of the courtyard. Link glanced at his friends as the rest of the first-year students slowly formed a semicircle around him. He pushed his way to the front of the crowd, Sidon, Tulin, and the rest on his heels. In addition to the balding man, several other men and women stood in a line facing the students. Most were Hylian or Gerudo, but several zora and rito were present, and even one large goron. "Yes, please come in close; I want everyone to be able to see." The bald man said, "This is a significant decision." He waited until everyone had a clear view, then continued. "My name is Professor Gaepora Bosphoramous, and I am the director of activities here at Hylia Academy. I know my name is a mouthful, so if it makes it easier, you may shorten it from Bosphoramous to 'Boss'." Chuckles rose from some of the students, and Link grinned. "But today is not about me," 'Boss' continued, "Today, you will choose what electives you will pursue for the next one-hundred and fifty days. You are required to participate in a minimum of two electives, and a maximum of four. We have strived to bring you the best coaches and instructors in every field, and I can promise that regardless of what activity you choose, you will be well entertained and well taught." He gestured to a young woman holding a stack of papers. "We are going to hand out a list of all the electives offered by Hylia Academy. Sign your name at the top, and then circle what activities you would like to participate in. The first lessons of those activities will immediately follow this meeting." Link accepted his sheet of paper when it reached him. A long list of electives was printed, followed by the times and frequency of meetings. ARCHERY CAVALRY ARTISTRY WATER-BALL TRACK ANCIENT ENGINEERING BATTLE RING AERIAL COURSE (Rito exclusive) SHIELD SURFING BODY BOWL (Goron exclusive) WRITING COOKERY SKY-BALL REMEDIAL CLASSES TACKLE-BALL He hadn't expected so many options. Archery was easy, as that was by far his greatest talent, and battle ring also sounded fun, but so did cavalry and tackle-ball. Maybe he would choose three electives instead of just two. "The men and women standing next to me are the instructors for the various electives." finish in credits
"Before you choose, they would like to give a brief summary of their various activities and sports." Link glanced at Sidon as the coaches began to speak. He had already circled water-ball and tackle-ball, and was frowning at the paper. "How come only gorons get to participate in body bowl?" He complained. Link rolled his eyes. "Because if anybody else tried to play, they'd shatter every bone in their body." He answered. Sidon glared. "I still think I should be allowed to play." He insisted. Link just shook his head and circled archery on his sheet, followed by battle-ring and cavalry. "Playing to your strengths, huh?" Sidon asked, stealing a glance at his paper. "Like you're not?" Link replied, "You're a Zora singing up for Water-Ball." "Water-Ball is my passion." Sidon argued, "There's a difference." Link just shrugged. "Sure. Are you going to pick a third elective, or stick with two?" Sidon seemed to debate for a second, then circled skyball. Link nodded appreciatively. Sidon would be good at the sport, with his athletic build and long arms. "Hey cous," Impa said, peering over his shoulder, "What'd you pick?" Link showed her his list. "Cavalry?" She asked, "Isn't that like army stuff?" Link shook his head. "No, it's just called that. It's actually horse racing, but they add stuff like archery challenges and things." "Is that why you're doing archery too?" "No, that's just because I enjoy it. What ones are you taking?" Impa handed him her sheet. "Ancient engineering and Cookery." She said. Link circled tackle-ball on her paper. "And tackle-ball." He informed her. Impa snatched the sheet from him. "LINK!" "Ok," Boss said, drawing attention back to himself. Sidon laughed as Impa tried to rub away the ink on her paper. "I trust you have all had time to select your activities, and so we will be coming around shortly to collect your papers." "It's permanent ink." Link whispered to Impa, who socked him on the shoulder. "Take it off!" She hissed back. Link shushed her pointed at Boss. "Pay attention." He said sternly. "We will spend ten minutes collecting your papers," Boss continued, "then we will start our first elective period at your chosen activities. You may talk amongst yourselves while we work." Link turned to the rest of the group. "Ok, who's at archery with me?" He asked. Tulin raised a wing, and they high-fived. "I didn't know you shot," Link said, "Are you good?" Tulin chuckled. "All rito are taught archery pretty early," He said, "But I've kept up with my training for a while, so I'm no slouch." "I'm not terrible either, so we should have this one in the bag." Link said, "What else does everyone have?" "I've got body-bowl and Tackle-Ball." Yunobo said. Sidon high-fived him. "Tackleball here too. What position are you going to try for?" "Center Line, you?" "Far-Wide." Link did a tally as everyone listed off their electives. Sidon Yunobo were both competing in tackle-ball, all the girls were taking ancient engineering, Zelda and Yona were doing artistry together while Impa and Purah were participating in cookery. Impa was taking writing, and Link and Yunobo were battle ring partners. "Ok, students!" Boss called from up front. "We've collected all the applications, please know that just because you signed up for a certain sport or activity, it does not guaranty that you will make the team. Many of these electives are fiercely competitive, and the instructors will only accept the best. "But now we dismiss to our first electives. The meetings being held first are Battle Ring, Shield Surfing, cookery, sky-ball, remedial classes, and track. If your elective was not named, then you may treat this next period as free time. "If your elective was called, please gather around your instructor and follow them to your meeting building or field. Link nudged Yunobo. "Ready to go get beat up?" He asked. Yunobo cracked a smile. "Goro, I was born ready." Alright guys, that's the end of chapter four. Huge thanks to everybody who reads and loves Hylia Academy. This is quickly becoming one of my most popular fan fictions.
