This is a good way to learn how the chess pieces move. You play with the white pieces. Click a piece to select it. Then, click another square to move it. You can see what moves are legal by clicking the "Legal Moves" button at the top right. Pieces still move the same way as in normal chess. Take all black pieces to win! Changes to normal chess rules: - Instead of checkmating, you must take all the opponent's pieces. - Kings are just another piece; there is no check or checkmate. - En Passant and Castling are not allowed. - Threefold repetition and the 50-move rule do not exist. There are many settings in the top-right corner. Here’s what they do: - The “Reset Board” button regenerates the board so that you can start a new game. - The button with the Pawn icon lets you choose whether the black pieces are manually controlled (like the white ones) or whether the engine plays with the black pieces. The white pieces are always manually controlled, no matter what state this setting is on. - The button with the King icon lets you choose which board variant you want to play. Try them out and see which starting position you like best! Or invent your own starting positions using the Board Editor in the "Empty" variant. - The button with the square lets you choose whether squares will change to show legal moves, and whether they will become blue or darken. With this on, you’ll be able to see which squares your selected pieces can go to. With it off, you won’t be able to. This can be useful if you don’t want the extra help. (No matter what, you’ll never be allowed to make an illegal move!) - The Button with the Queen icon lets you set material odds if the game isn't as challenging as you want.
I figure that since the overhaul may never end up coming out, I should reshare the original project. The red squares highlight the computer's last move, and the box at the top shows their last move, too, as well as how long they thought on that position. This game may be best used in Turbo Mode by clicking the Green Flag while holding the Shift key. However, this game can also be played perfectly fine without using Turbo Mode. The computer is NOT artificially nerfed! It always makes what it thinks is the best move in each position. Be careful not to get stalemated - or stalemate the engine! If you do, you can click the “Reset Board” button in the top-right corner, but if the computer is taking a long time to move, and it is their turn, you’ve most likely stalemated it.
