When Fred walked in the room, it was like the sun was behind a cloud and suddenly it shined in your eyes as the cloud moved out of the way. “Hi James! I’m Fred! How are you? Oh you have a walking boot, are you ok? How old are you? Isn’t Emerson a great person? I brought lasagna! Isn’t that cool?” Holy crap did this guy talk a lot. I was about to answer when he started bombarding Emerson with questions. I slipped away to the dinner table and waited for them to come in. After a couple minutes I watched them walk in. “Sorry for all the questions James. I just love meeting new people. Sadly my habit of asking too many questions deters a lot of folks. But you stayed! I hope we get to know each other better than my first introduction.” This guy was apologizing for yapping too much. Are the people here just weird? The conversation strayed from talking to me, to asking Emerson about me because I wasn’t feeling social. “I’m going to go to the bathroom real quick. And I can tell my own life story Emerson.” I got up and walked to the bathroom. After shutting the door I realized that while he was talking to me I started scratching. A lot. I do that when I get overwhelmed. But I did way too much and now I was injured again. I grabbed some bandages out of my bag and put them on. Then I looked up at the mirror. My reflection was exactly as expected. I looked tired, almost burnt out socially. I saw the reflection change for a fraction of a second. I saw this girl and not myself. Being terrified I wasn’t alone, I turned around quickly. But no one was there. I looked into the mirror again and only saw myself. I walked back out of the bathroom confused, who was that girl? I shook it out, and sat back down at the table with Emerson and Fred. They were still talking about my life. Some people just can’t take a hint, even when it’s spoon fed to them.
