→ This is my Portal engine, currently "just" a portal engine. As I fix many bugs I am getting really close to finally being able to make a complete source engine, which means there will be lots of other things than just portals. I am about to make triggers, a level editor, and effects, and not including the rest of the settings and the console. The goal is to make it possible to make mods for this engine and maybe make half-life with it, which will require me to make other stuff for this engine, which again I have plans for how that will all work. Either way I am going to make Portal 1 with this engine once it is finished, which is looking to take another year before it gets close to that time. "thanks for reading" "if you are wondering what, why, or how read notes/credits" (play game in full-screen) "A and D" for left and right movement "s" to crouch "Space" to jump "R" or "left click" to grab objects. just click. "W" to throw/drop an object. depends on your speed "E" to shoot orange portal "Q" to shoot blue portal "T" to pause game. later will be menu NOTE: you can remap the controls in the options menu, but the settings for photosensitive are not added yet. "bugs" 1. player sometimes faces the wrong direction or appears upside down inside the opposite portal. "this is only for the effect player which appears in the other portal but is currently disabled." 2. portal clipping is possibly gone, will try to get rid of, but I will try to keep at least one kind of no clip for the fun of it. 3. objects basically stop working when they are off screen so you cannot drop them when they go through a portal. 4. lots of broken stuff with energy pellets, but they use an older system that my game doesn't use anymore anyway 5. you can make objects teleport wherever you want by having the exit portal off screen, making the object teleport, then moving that off screen portal somewhere else, which then makes both sets of portals on screen with the object somewhere else. there are more bugs but i don't want to list them
========================================== If you think its cool please star it. I've been working really hard on this so it means a lot. not many people put this kinda effort into there games like I do. I go above and beyond my capability/ skill and knowledge. ========================================== lot of the stuff I say is probably older things from months ago, so if they don't make sense don't worry about it. "want to know how and what and why. read below" Griffpatch's portal game is good. I don't hate his. it just has a lot of potential which is bad for my project. why does the game look like a mess of portal stuff? because currently i am making level textures. most of the 3d stuff you see in game have been made 2d by me. there existence is to fill up the space until i can start making full levels. I am not planning on using all of these textures in the final version. also they will be aligned. Yes Glados will be added. I am making the Entire game. at least everything that is necessary, so like resolution settings probably won't be added. will it always look this choppy? I don't know. it depends what i can find. I will try to make it look good. sadly not every portal 1 sound/voice line can be added. it is not possible. although I could try in Turbowarp there are many bugs. if you want to know about the current ones then look in the bottom of instructions I will add a portal texture eventually. it is easier right now to just have the hitbox for testing. yes the portals you see are just the hitbox and not actual textures the game engine is about done. this means I can just start making test chambers which I think will be fun. never actually reached this point in my games. because portal 1 is not a 2d game most textures I will have to make myself because they are 3d. like the cube dispenser for example, it is 3d so I have to use the scratch editor to make it 2d. DO NOT WORRY. I am pretty good at using the scratch editor. even effects. trust me it will look good. The turret can't shoot yet. not until I figure out how to actually make a proper turret. I don't know what to do with the moving platforms and doors and stuff. moving them is the easy part but the player interacting with them and also the stuff going off screen would be difficult to code. if possible. the goal is to use the same sprite for every single object if at least only have 2. I am planning on adding an editor or level mapper, but only to make levels way faster. it will let you add textures, objects, triggers, and other solid objects the player can collide with. I am planning on making a turbowarp version, this version will get rid of clone limits and will add better physics. When I finish the portal engine this will become the main game and then the actual engine will be a separate project that might get updates. more will be added soon :)
