Cherry Blossoms =||=||=||=||=||=||=||=||=||=||=||=||=||=||=||=||=||=||=||=||=||=||=||=|| Lichen walked down the one street in her village, humming a song she had learned to play on her flute in music class at school earlier that day. Her cats, Cherry and Blossom, greeted her at the end of the path leading up to Lichen's family's cottage. They rubbed up against her legs, purring when she scratched them behind their ears. Lichen walked up the path to the cottage and let herself in. Her parents wouldn't be home for a few hours, and her younger siblings always stayed at school late with their friends. Lichen was the oldest child, but she was only ten. It had been a long time since she'd had friends to stay after school with. Lichen hung up her school bag on a nail in the wall that served as her coat hook. Five other nails were in the wall beside it; one for her mother, one for her father, one for her sister, one for each of her twin brothers. She took her wooden flute out of her bag and grabbed a small pouch off of the dining room table. Lichen walked out of the cottage, closing the door behind her. She walked not on the street into the village, but on a smaller, more subtle path into the woods. The woods completely muffled sound. As soon as Lichen stepped into the woods, the sounds from the village were extinguished, to be replaced by the sounds of birds singing in the trees and a waterfall in the distance.
