---------- THE ULTIMATE FEVER DREAM LORE REVELATION Ultimate Lore Summary: So basically throughout Fever Dream it's just her (the protagonist) wandering around that place through her perspective, reviewing her own memories as a complete stranger who has no idea she's even reviewing her own memories. Her brain makes her memories seem unnaturally perfect and flawless, and she learns that maybe she's happy in a flawless world. But when the terminal lucidity hits her, that makes her realize she's in her own memories and not some "dream world" where everything's basically an unnaturally flawless version of her life. Her recalling everything and realizing she's in a delusion created a lot of pressure on her mental stability causing the world to collapse. She then wakes up and d1es, because that's what happens to people with terminal lucidity. ---------- Fun Facts/Most Answered Questions: Fever Dream’s name is a metaphor through a small title thats supposed to represent something more (take To K1ll a Mockingbird for example) What happened was that the protagonist got into a coma and then woke up in the “dream state” where her brain reviews her memories as a “disjointed lucid dream story” before she perishes at the end when she wakes up… she wouldn’t have been any more mentally stable if she survived A fever dream is a vividly bizarre dream experienced while one is suffering with a high fever, the dream could often be unsettling and involve intense emotions, surreal, disjointed imagery and weird experiences. And why would it take her long to get over this? Well you know how sometimes a dream is so realistic, while you're in it you're convinced its not even a dream and then you wake up and realize it is and either go "phew!" Or "noOOÓooÔ it was so good?" Well, this dream she's in is a "hyper-idealized" lucid dream and ofc since she has some kind of trauma her brain WANTS to get used to it and it DOES, beyond than the brain should in an actual dream. And in the last two memories she gets the terminal lucidity, a "wake up" in reality. And its gonna hit hard on her. One last thing: your brain will invent its own reality if it’s deprived of one. That’s why the dream state is vividly idealized, and the protagonist is easily convinced it's the way things roll. Maybe something happened to her that made her want to avoid any of the bad parts of her memories, perhaps trauma-inducing stress that when she got her coma, her brain completely got rid of the bad memories and only painted the picture with the good memories as the reference/base. ---------- Simplified Lore Breakdown: This girl gets into a coma after a car crash, and she winds up in this dream world. In the dream world, she experiences portions of her core memories without knowing they're hers. Her brain makes it all idealized and unrealistically perfect and it's just all her own delusions, and she believes that since everything's perfect, she's like in a dream or something. Terminal lucidity is the surge of memories in someone with dementia or just severe memory loss. She obviously arrived in that dream state without memories. While she's busy "living the dream" in her own deluded memories, the terminal lucidity hits her. She slowly realizes everything seems familiar, and then it hits that she's literally re-experiencing her own memories. Then the flaws from those memories kick in. The "perfect unrealistic delusion" version of her memories is gone. She re-experiences the worst parts and stuff, those memories she first believes were good memories actually turned out to be bad memories and that reality's too much for her mental stability. She originally got used to the idealized version of her memories. ---------- THEORIES “7 Minutes Theory” The claim that the brain stays active for exactly 7 minutes to replay your life after d3ath is a popular myth without scientific proof. Instead of titling it FEVER DREAM... it should be titled “7 MINUTES OF A FEVER DREAM”. the protagonist should experience 7 of her core memories. The 2nd to last memories will be the parts where she has the terminal lucidity, and everything unravels. But wait... what if in the dream world, its more like 7 days of memories when in reality, its only 7 minutes, and her body's in the stage where it begins to power down, but just enough energy to wake up and scribble Memory Alley in her sketchbook, a quick drawing where she sections each memory so she wouldn't forget them, the transition to MEMORY ALLEY, the sequel. :OOOO “Wonder Theory” The “dream world” is entirely our protagonist's idealized core memories, all inside her brain. Her brain controls everything. So when she goes insane, the world “goes insane” with her. So as she slowly goes unstable it becomes obvious the way the world grows corrupt. It'll keep growing corrupt until she wakes up. ---------- Thanks for reading my lore!
Background: Okay so, after half a year of songwriting and a break from story writing, i'm ready. I'm pulling Fever Dream out of its 2 year hiatus, and so after TIMELINE's done, I'm gonna get to work on the first chapter and expect its release around November, the same month the original chapter 1 released. Throughout the summer, I have thought through the lore and stuff, i've been making sure to plan things through before getting into it, unlike with the old draft. With the old draft, I easily just lost my own story's plot and at that point I was writing whatever not knowing where it'll go. I'm thankful i stopped there. And now, i feel like my writing has improved (i still cringe at my old grammar errors) and so has the LORE!
