MossClan ---- History ---- MossClan is an ancient Clan, far far older than any other known Clan. Nobody knows it's founder or origins. It has a long history to tell, but only fragments remain to be found. ---- Territory Description ---- MossClan is a large boreal birch forest with carpets of moss on it's floor. The birch trees are typically not the best for climbing, due to their thin and unreliable branches, but lighter or more nimble cats might be able to fit themselves. Alongside its mossy carpets and boulders, MossClan is also known for it's leaf-fall hues and red flowering bushes. When it is not snowing in leaf-bare, the territory is often rainy or drizzling, which although that affects all Clans, the rain droplets catching and then passing through the trees creates a particularly unpleasant effect. The camp is located in the midst of a circle of large, towering boulders and bushes, with the majority of the dens being within these bushes, nestled between the boulders, or underground. Common predators are foxes and badgers, but rarely a handful of wolves may strut out of their homeland, seeking new territory. Bears, too, may be encountered. They are a death sentence if they choose to be aggressive, stay far away and hidden. ---- Cat Descriptions ---- [ these are simply typical traits, and by no means are neccessary. in no circumstance should these traits be used to mock a cat for being too little or too much looking like a certain clan or group ] Due to Delphine reviving the Clan several times recently, there is less of a unique standout identity. However, due to the majority of the kits being found in the more northern cold and the eastern flower fields, kittens descending from more northern lands tend to be larger, have fluffier coats with grays, whites, and blacks as their most common coat color, and the kittens descending from the east areas tend to be smaller, have smaller ears and shorter fur, with brown or ginger pelts. ---- Behaviors ---- This group of revival cats were particularly raised with a sense of duty and hardwork in mind above all other traits, due to MossClan's previous death due to being pinned between constant predators and lack of prey. Apprentices' first skills are often to hunt and patrol, before any fighting or diplomacy skills are taught. The trait most valued in this Clan is loyalty. MossClan is also raised, and always has been, to be particularly allegiant. Leaving the Clan is seen as abandonment and traitorous, and a disgusting crime. Families will even go so far as to cut-off or disown members who have left for the life of a kittypet, loner, or worse, UrchinClan. A small, side note is that MossClan cats typically have a poor sense of direction and tend to get lost. --- Skills --- Stalking / Hiding Although many cats have ways of being stealthy in their own manner, MossClan cats are typically particularly great at a Hunter's Crouch, as well as staying still for long periods of time, as many of their typical prey items rely on this approach. This is in contrast to UrchinClan, who typically does not get to sneak up on their prey at all. Storytelling Due to MossClan being most involved in the ancient history of the Clans, their history and ancestry is the most important for them to track down. Although much of their story has been lost, they try to preserve the remnants as best as they can, as well as constantly creating new stories to pass down to future generations. There is a subtle skirmish between the true 'historians' of the Clan, and those who indulge in stories of a fantastical and make-believe nature. The historians believe it's best to keep their past as truthful and clear as possible, whereas the make-believers prefer to try to spice up the 'overdone' history tales by spicing up small details, inserting their own made-up characters into it, or making their own tales altogether. This, irritably, can make deciphering the truth of certain stories a little bit difficult. Digging/Burrowing MossClan cats will often know effective ways to burrow down into the ground for purposes of creating a more effective/low spot for waiting for prey, maintaining dens, and burying catches. And while this trait is continually prized and useful, care is taken not to teach the skills of actually starting a full den from scratch, in order to sabotage any youth looking to strike out on their own as a loner, by neglecting them the skills it takes to create shelter from the nasty weather. This will sometimes even cause would-be traitors to come back after a night or two and beg for warmth and a den. Climbing This trait is much rarer, only possessed by a few. It's not seen as integral as the other traits, but it can be useful for getting a sense of location, bird catching, and egg snatching. As noted previously, this is really only most successful for small cats or cats who are quite aware of their own balance, due to the trees' brittle and thin branches.
